Well, it's been forever and a half. As cliché as it is, it's the start of a new calendar year, and society is screaming at me to reinvent myself. Frankly, I quite like myself and would rather not upgrade to a new model, thank you very much. However, I will use this weirdly ingrained cultural blank slate as an excuse to start up this blog again. Take that, societal constructs.

As we begin counting to 365 one more time, the self-importance that this age of internet has embed in me suggests that I tell you all the lessons I have learned in 2014. Cuz obviously, you like care.

  1. There is not a single type of green juice that tastes good. I don't care how your weird Russian trainer blends spinach, twigs, and whateverthefuck, it's going to taste like crushed dreams. I know this supposedly keeps you healthy, but I've decided that quality of life definitely trumps length on this one.
  2. There is absolutely no chance that they didn't get your text. They probably looked at it and forget to respond, but not once has an iPhone malfunctioned so fantastically that the one important text you sent was magically deleted from their phone. Let's all stop playing this game.
  3. I have very conflicting feelings toward Taylor Swift, and this year just solidified the fact that I'll probably never be able to un-complicate them.
  4. No matter how sad or upset you are, there is some show on Netflix that will make you feel at least a little bit better. I promise.
  5. On that note, TV shows that you are emotionally attached to will get cancelled. This will be very traumatic, but you'll move on eventually. At least that's what I'm telling myself. Nobody say anything about The Newsroom, it's too soon.
  6. If you instagram that photo during the party, there is an 100% chance that you will wake up the next day and regret the filter you used. Every. Single. Time.
  7. There is absolutely no shame in asking for what you want. You probably won't get it, or if you do, it'll be packaged so weirdly that you won't even recognize it. However, there's nothing more empowering than allowing yourself the confidence to go after your dreams hands first.
  8. Keeping in touch with friends gets really hard when you move away from home. It's a two way street, and sometimes it just doesn't work. Like most aspects of growing up, this is both sad and liberating.
  9. The majority of people are actually single on New Years Eve. So calm the fuck down.
  10. Call your parents. A lot. They're actually really cool and you can rant to them about all your shitty frenemies without worrying that they'll spill the beans.
  11. You are worth what you desire. And working hard for said desire is both a privilege and a responsibility. Respect it.
So 2015, do your worst. I dare you. I see your almond milk triple espresso, and I raise you a normal fucking coffee. I have all the strength of a millennial who ordered the burger last night, even though it wasn't gluten-free or vegan.

Drove to Chicago, all things go...

Well technically I flew, but then I wouldn't get to title this with a pretentious song lyric. I woke up this morning at the ungodly hour of 6:30 am. Honestly I don't know how normal working people do that sort of thing everyday. The whole reason I got into dancing was the sleep late/work late thing that apparently isn't actually even true. I mean here I am, traveling for a dance related reason (when do I ever do anything for a reason that isn't dance related though?) and I'm up at the crack of dawn.

Anyway, I'm stumbling around my apartment trying to finish packing everything and frantically debating which coat to wear. Right now on the east coast it's that weird part of winter where you've kinda acclimated to frigid temps so when it warms up to about 30 degrees you think it's summer. Luckily, my mother has instilled that voice in the back of my head that reminds me that I need a coat no matter how much of a tough Bostonian I think I am. Coat and leopard fuzzy hat finally decided on, I took a second to breathe and sit down for some yummy breakfast.

Chocolate almond granola, greek yogurt, and raspberries

This is probably one of my favorite easy breakfasts. When I'm feeling extra tired, or have forgotten to pick up almond milk AGAIN, I toss a little granola with greek yogurt and fruit and I'm good to go.

Fast forward a cab ride, a long wait at the airport, two cups of coffee, a decent flight, and I'm in Chicago! I'm always surprised when I'm on an airplane for less than 6 hours. Having flown from coast to coast so many freaking times, I find that pretty much any other flight seems like child's play. I guess I'm becoming one of those annoying travel-savy people who can actually pack everything they need for the weekend in a carry-on bag.

One of the things I like to do most in cities I'm not totally familiar with is take a long drive/train ride through them. It's really cool to see the sights of a city in one long panorama view. Throw on some acoustic indie music and you feel like you're in a low-budget Sundance film. I guess this is kinda a novelty for me since I don't own a car and end up walking pretty much everywhere I need to get to on a daily basis. Cause of this, I didn't even mind spending a hour on the L to get into the city after my flight.

Chicago is a pretty amazing city. It's huge and loud and busy like New York, but there's something that is undoubtably midwestern about it. It seems like there's more space out here. Maybe that's just in my head, since I'm used to a studio apartment in Boston, but it definitely feels like I have more room to stretch my legs out here.

Now I'm waiting for a friend, and then I'm heading in for an easy night before tomorrow where I jump into classes and new adventures!

Quant à moi

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I'm a aspiring dancer, yoga lover, foodie, and reluctant traveller. This blog is about my daily adventures - taking class everyday, attempting to cook without burning my apartment down, and enjoying the lovely cities that I spend my time in. Jump on in and bumble through it all with me...
